I am working on creating advice and resource lists for secondaries teaching Food Tech and DT to students with PD.

Please can I ask if any colleagues have any top tips / equipment suppliers etc.

I will happily send out my sheets and links  when compiled.

Many thanks

Ideally adjustable height or otherwise lower height kitchen for wheelchair users - both our food tech rooms have one lower kitchen.  Cupboard under hob has no interior in low kitchen so when doors are opened there is wheelchair access to hob, same under sink for access to wash up. Longer handles on taps to allow for reach to control water.  Cradle for holding kettle/jug to allow pouring by pupils who can't hold the object. Adapted handle knives for easier grip. Chopping guide so can use knife to slice safely. Chopping boards with spiky base that hold the object being cut still. oven at suitable height - may need to be height adjustable if have wheelchairs at a range of heights - with a door that either opens sideways or slides under/into oven unit to allow access without reaching past the door. Protective apron so any spills do not burn/scold pupil.

Hi Jayne - I've done a hand-out with photos which I'll send to you as I don't have the tech know-how to attach to this post!! If you directly email on hannah.brown@Gloucestershire.gov.uk I'll send it though.

Best wishes,

Hannah

Having electric food choppers, or food processor that can be switch operated via a Power Link is excellent. Use of clamps, tripods, remote control, vice or and in DT leads to greater independence. I like stencil paint brushes, with a short round handle, for supporting painting or gluing.
