Hi,

I have been asked if there are any exam desks that are accessible for a wheelchair user. A pupil I am supporting in Year 10 is due to sit his GCSE's and he would like to use an exam desk rather than a regular class table, however the ones in school are not suitable with his wheelchair.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

what about an 'overbed' table? They can sometimes be less sturdy but would probably be okay for exam use. they usually have 2 long legs that slide underneath the wheelchair. Try nrshealthcare.co.uk

hope that helps

Is it the width or the height which is the issue?

If it is just the height I have had site management teams build 'blocks ' with slots in the top to locate the legs but you do have to be careful they fully understand they cannot reduce the width too much.

Have you tried remap? They are great for converting equipment.

Or JCM (Now Sunrise) used to have smaller single height adjustable tables not sure if they are still available.

Good luck, Donna

We use the 'Alderton' cut-out table from James Spencer - www.jamesspencer.co.uk -  a good value, high quality height adjustable table for wheelchair users (£168 ex VAT)
