Hi All,

I hope you are all well. It has been a while since I made any comments but I do keep in touch with what is going on through the DCC PDNET Champions in my team.

The work going on throughout COVID is impressive and Forum's like this I am certain are holding us altogether in these tough times.

I am however feeling a little concerned about the new  EY Development Matters set to be rolled out to all EY settings from September 2021. My concerns are for SEN children and in particular PI (As this is my role).

Whilst it feels a huge relief that less emphasis is being given to gathering evidence and is more on getting involved hands and trusting practioner expertise, it is likely to have an impact on how settings can evidence need for funding and EHCP applications for our PI children.

Do any of you have any suggestions of fine/gross motor assessment tools I could look at? I have come across Active Hands which is  a great doc (in my opinion) but wondered what other counties might use or can suggest. The support and advice programmes from physio and OT will as always be essential in evidence gathering but I was thinking that there might be more general assessment styles.

I am also aware of MOVE but find it more difficult to put in to practice in a mainstream school than within a special setting.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Best wishes, Donna

Good morning Donna

I would be interested in this thread too as I work in a mainstream primary with an inclusive provision for pd children. I ahve not come across the Active hands doc or MOVE so would like to know a bit more please.

Schools we support seem to be successful at using MOVES (assuming it's the same thing with the 's') with small groups.

Warwickshire Children's OT has a programme for fine motor skills that has an assessment element to it.

Hi Donna

this resource is aimed at school age children, so would be more for YR rather than nursery.  It is a resource to support gross and fine motor development through a graded programme.  By working through the programme you will either see the child improve or their difficulty will be evidenced by their lack of progress and particular areas of difficulty will be highlighted.

hope that's helpful
