Hi all, a question about Assisted Technology assessments for pupils - are the assessments paid for by schools and how is equipment funded for children with and without EHCPs across other LAs? Any information would be great.
Many thanks
Gurby

In Hampshire we have a Specialist Teacher Adviser for Assistive Technology and an Assistive Technology Adviser both of whom conduct Assessments with CYP who have EHCPs with primary need PD in mainstream schools. Following the assessment, depending on the advice given, the Specialist Teacher Advisory Service (STAS) may fund the equipment. If it is ordinarily available provision, STAS would not fund. STAS do not fund any equipment under £100.

In Essex we don't do formal assessments within the team but have some equipment (Mice, keyboards, switches etc) and software to trial which we then fund if successful. Sometimes for more complex assessment this would be via CASEE and/or a company like Smartbox, which the LA would fund at least the assessment for and then either fund or joint fund the actual equipment with Health and maybe Social Care. We expect schools to fund anything under £30 anyway and we won't fund non-specialist equipment like ordinary laptops.
