HI all, I wondered if any of you are able to help with a query relating to live load manual handling training to schools? Thank you to those who I messaged individually. In Havering we outsource this training to Herts but we organise centrally since we pay Herts for the training (free at point of delivery!). It has become a logistical nightmare with schools or training provider cancelling at the last minute and schools not offering their facilities to support (our office is a Town Hall - no opportunity for live load manual handling training there). I would just like to understand how you manage this in your local authorities/boroughs please?

Hi
In Hull, we currently offer the training in the local authority training / education centre, i.e. we book a room there to run the training as we, like you, don't have the space to run the training in our base. In the old days, as we started as an outreach service working out of the local PD special school, we were able to use the school facilities. This arrangement ended during the pandemic.
This is the theory and introduction to manual handling course - any specific work needed by staff takes place later in their settings, using their equipment and facilities. The certificate of completion is awarded only after both elements have been delivered and passed.
Thanks
Rob
