Does anyone currently use a 'workbook' to provide theory M&H training in a special needs school. I'm hoping to develop our delivery of M&H training by giving delegates a workbook to complete for the theory section. I'd be appreciated if anyone could email me what they use and we could adapt it for our setting. thank you

I am a train the trainer with solutions training and advisory when you train with them you have access to the presentation and other materials including a work book that you are able to adapt to your own setting. Who has trained you and where are their materials?

In our school trainers maintain their own competency to be M&H coordinators and deliver training. We are linked with other M&H professionals from different M&H organizations and attend training meetings/conferences from equipment companies and the NBE.

An OT’s Take on this Subject

I think more so than materials, ongoing support is more crucial, they say practice makes perfect and whilst I don’t believe there is such thing as perfection I do believe that especially in the case of moving and handling, practical application is everything.
The theory proportion of moving and handling is specifically important to how the task is carried out and the whys and what’s of the tasks. I often find that within schools, roles do not permit significant time for sitting and reading /retracing materials (enough so to make it meaningful for the role) but the space is full of practical opportunity for application.

I am more of a mind that regular engagement with the MH trainer and workshop style problem solving is more of a functional approach than written materials and promote discussion and confidence among those that carry out this kind of support. Although Of course, this can also be difficult making the time for such things!

As a disclaimer , I am very much a ‘do er’ kinaesthetic to the core 😂

Nb: my response is in relation to ongoing nature.
I do think that collective and collaborative learning is best for theory as it can be such a heavy portion ! It needs to be lightened with a little fun for me. As I say , application is everything so embedding this into the practical is so so important !!! 😀
