Hi, Can anyone recommend a programme / resource for adults in school to use to support children with physical needs in expressing their feelings that specifically relate to their diagnosis?
Good question! I'm afraid I can't but I'm at the point of writing one myself as there seems very little out there. It seems to be overlooked very often for children with PD.
lego therapy has worked well for some with building social confidence skills and more schools seem to be Rolling out some mindfulness groups but nothing specific to disability/diagnosis.
I'll be keeping at eye on this thread for any suggestions.
I would also suggest “Lego Build to Express”.
I've adapted the 'incredible 5 point scale' so C/YP can identify how comfortable they are in terms of pain/fatigue or a battery type cartoon in terms of energy levels..
I haven't really explored how they feel about their diagnosis ...
We have used the 'Moving On' / 'Moving Up' resources developed by the Kent PD service very successfully in small groups to work on self-esteem/confidence and resilience relating to physical disability. The packs are very usable and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the sessions, reflecting on their feelings about themselves and how they felt others saw them. Highly recommended!
