Welcome!

The pdnet Level 2 Supporting Learners with Physical Disability course will develop your knowledge and understanding of the most common physical disabilities and covers the concepts, principles and core skills needed to provide effective support.

The course is organised into 8 Units of learning:

Introduction to Physical Disability

Understanding Conditions

Communication and Interaction

Personal Care and Manual Handling

Access and Participation

Health and Wellbeing

Working with Families and Professionals

Assessment, Planning and Reviewing Progress

Each unit consists of an online learning session with accompanying workbook tasks and case study which take approximately an hour and a half to complete. Further details will follow in the instructions.

Instructions

As you work through the units, your progress will be automatically saved. So if you need to leave the training at any point, you will always be able to pick up where you left off. If you want to check your progress, click on the Progress tab at the top of this page.

The units need to be completed in order, but you will be able to work through the training at your own pace and revisit as many times as you need.

There is not a time limit for completion and once you have completed a unit, you will still be able to return to it for reference purposes.

Upon completion of all 8 units you will have achieved your pdnet Level 2 Training on Supporting Learners with Physical Disability. You will then be able to download your certificate from the Progress tab.

Workbook & Case Study

Before you start Unit 1 you will need to download and save your workbook. Please use the links below. You will need to have your saved document open during the units so you can update and save your work as you interact with each session.

As you work through each unit, you will be asked to turn to your workbook to complete a range of tasks to help you consolidate your learning and apply it to your setting and the children you work with.

At the end of each unit you will be asked to complete a case study task. If you do not have access to a 'real' case study, you can use one of our example pupil profiles (available on the next tab).

Pupil Profiles

We have developed profiles for Ellie Watts (primary) and Mishka Kann (secondary). We strongly recommend you read a pupil profile as they provide an example of good practice in including learners with physical disability, exploring in detail how learners are supported effectively in a mainstream school.

The profiles also include the learner's Individual Health Care Plan (IHCP), providing an example of the information that needs to be available in school. This will help you reflect on IHCP documentation in your own school.

Please note: these are examples of an IHCP. The format may vary to enable schools to choose an effective format to meet the needs of each pupil.

These pupil profiles can also be used by colleagues who do not have a 'real' case study for their workbook activities.
