A colleague is working with a college student (18 yrs) who has a neurological condition which has impacted on her in a number of ways – there are days where she wakes up and is unable to walk and other days when she is fine and recently she has starting having seizures. In addition to this she is also profoundly deaf. She had wanted to study occupational therapy with a view to moving on to play therapist. She is barred from these at the moment due to the neurological condition. She is hoping that she will grow out of the seizures or medication will help but is looking at other options. Do you know if there are any resources she can tap into like careers advisor specialising in students with disabilities? Many thanks
Hi Hannah
Just to say the APPD on Cerebral Palsy has a call for evidence out on" Barriers to employment facing people with Cerebral Palsy entering, staying in, and progressing in work, and lessons from the impact of Covid-19 (Tuesday 19 November – 2pm)"
Best wishes

Hi Hannah
This is a long shot . I wonder if Disability Rights could advise or signpost. https://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/how-we-can-help
They have a section on their website :

Career opportunities: getting work, education and skills

Best wishes

some areas offer specialised careers advice for kids with complex needs (psychological, social, SEND etc) - Dudley definitely do. It is a bit patchy depending on where you live though. Have you tried the local career / Connexions / Prospects https://youthsupportteam.co.uk/services/careers-advice-plus
