I'm fishing around for ideas on how other authorities determine what level of support and provision a school can expect from their support service.  We use Range Guidance 1 - 6 but we're looking to update ours and it would be interesting to see how its done in other authorities.

Many thanks

Dear Ann,
We have eligibility criteria in HCC, but are also updating it, to have a variety for different levels of need, I would be interested in working with you and learning about your Range Guidance 1-6.

Please contact me on caroline.willoughby@hants.gov.uk

Hi Ann - I don't know about Range Guidance 1-6...is this a local thing or a national thing, please?  In Essex we use our Provision Guidance Toolkit:
http://www.essexlocaloffer.org.uk/file/provision-guidance-toolkit-0/
but in terms of support from Specialist teachers for PNI (PD), this depends on the needs of the child and the particular setting they are in.  We don't tend to use strict criteria as we find them too rigid.

Hi Ann
We are also struggling wih this. i would love to hear about your range guidance. We also find strict criteria too tight but need a criteria to define what we do.  Where can we get a copy of the range guidance please?

Hi All,

We've been working on this for the last two/three years and still haven't cracked it.  We've written our own criteria which are loosely based on the VI/HI NATSIP model and include scores related to the CYP and their context.  This gives an overall score which we then relate to a level of input for the year.  We don't stick rigidly to the planned amount (needs change over the year) but it gives an indication of higher/lower level pupils and helps with sharing caseload across staff.  Having the scores year on year also helps a bit to show impact of our input.

Would love to work on this with other people and I also don't know about Range Guidance so if anyone wants to get together on this get in touch 🙂
