Hi

I've just been asked about how to manage an emergency school lockdown for a wheelchair user.  The general protocol in this mainstream school is for all students to go under a table, but that's obviously totally inapporpriate for a wheelchair user. Just wondered if anyone has come across this issue and if you managed to find an acceptable solution.

Thanks for listening.

I guess it would be case by case with parent /pupil view. I think  it wouldn't be acceptable as a drill- but  in an emergency, could their be an cupboard/area of respite if close by?

Similarly, in an emergency CPR situation, moving and handling might take second place to class staff manually lifting the child out?

We have previously looked at the furniture in a room and tried to find a space that is away from any windows or doors, eg. between cupboards  Another option was to turn a table up on its end to create a screen / barrier if you like.  This was a primary school though and this may not work for older children.
