We apply for practical assistant and then specify what will be done. The practical assistant will only assists with lifting heavy things etc and washing up which are not assessed. They can also read a measuring jug if asked by the student, they can't say whether they need more or less just what it says. We have just had a student with cerebral palsy take her GCSE food in this way. It is a difficult one but as long as the practical assistant performs tasks that are not assessed and they ask for the support it is OK. We use practical assistants in maths and science too for plotting graphs, drawing lines etc as long as the student is clear where they want it to go it is OK. To work this way it is really important that they practice as they don't like asking staff to do things for them. We don't chop or stir or anything like that as they are assessed skills.

No Problem. When you apply through JCQ it may be rejected but you can then refer it to the exam board and put in details which is when we have been approved.
