A number of students the PNI specialists in Herts work with have significant memory difficulties, we are becoming increasingly more aware that the new GCSE system is not appropriate for these students and they are almost set up to fail from the beginning. I am looking at contacting exam boards to see whether we can have additional access arrangements made whereby those students who have identified memory difficulties are able to take some form of key words/text into the exam. The student can then refer to these as prompts which may in turn aid their recall of information.

Just wondered whether anyone has attempted to do this previously or whether you have similar experiences with the students you work with. Any advice will be greatly received, thanks.

Hi definitely a very common problem and I would expect this to increase with the links between premature birth and poor working memory. As we have more babies surviving early births and moving on through school this issue is not going to go away. I am not aware of anyone having asked about additional access arrangements.
