Does anyone have any fully inclusive sports day planning please?
I have a year 1 pupil who is a wheelchair user and is able to self propel but of course the sports field is grass which adds yet another level of difficulty.
I have ideas but if there is some planning out there already tried and tested that would be great.

Many thanks

Hello Ann,
I am sorry I do not have a specific Sports Day Plan for you, but I have to admit, as an experiment a few weeks ago I described a pupil into AI and asked for Inclusive Sports Day activities and the results were great! You might want to try it!!!
Best Wishes
Caroline

Hi
if the field is inaccessible for the wheelchair, we've had success with using inclusive sports, e.g. Boccia, as an event so that the disabled child can compete against others on the day.
if the field is flat enough, if it was possible to loan some wheelchairs for the day, you could have a wheelchair race!
Thanks
rob

Thanks Caroline and Rob.
I've just had an offer of some 'soft' field sports equipment such as soft javelins so I will be looking to incorporating these.
I will look into the AI option - its sounds interesting.

I'm not in school anymore but when I was we had traditional races and inclusive activities which the children earned stickers (points) for participation. For the races we talked to the children in class and agreed they could start further along the track.
