I run the OHMI Trust and we are about to undertake an audit of the needs for music students in First Access lessons in Northamptonshire, following success in Nottingham City.  I can't find any way of contacting advisory teachers for physical disability on the Northamptonshire website.  We would like to let them them of the work we are about to undertake and also we would like them to share a link about the project with as many SENCO's across the county as possible.  In Nottingham this proved to be a very valuable connection.  If anyone can help please feel free to email me at rachel@ohmi.org.uk .  To find out more about the work of the OHMI Trust in sourcing adapted musical instruments for people with upper limb impairments if you are located elsewhere please take a look at our website www.ohmi.org.uk or drop me a line.

Thank you 🙂

Rachel

OHMI is an excellent organisation and gives pupils with these impairments a unique opportunity to play music. Making music has an enormous number of beneficial effects, and there is a huge amount of literature on this. Also, it is an excellent example of inclusive practice and breaking down barriers; for example, a pupil joining the school recorder band using an adapted recorder.

One of Rachel's colleagues gave a short presentation at a pdnet conference a few years ago, generating much interest in the project.

I thoroughly encourage colleagues to explore this!
