I'm looking for ideas on ICT hardware for children that have fine motor issues for sensory reasons. I have a Y6 boy who is able to handwrite but can't use pen or pencil and paper because of sensory feedback. He has used a tablet with his finger, but this is less than ideal. I've talked to the school about using an iPad with Apple pencil, or using a Surface Pro with pen, but both of these are expensive options. And the Surface Pro doesn't seem very robust for a pre-teen boy. He has EHCP funding to buy the hardware, but I want to make sure that the options they have are future-proofed (as much as is possible in the world of ICT) and will see him well into secondary.

Does anyone have any experience of either of these options, or suggestions of what might be a better option?

Thanks

Maybe worth looking at Wacom products   or the Livescribe pen or even the Google handwriting input app .  All depends on how much feedback he can tolerate - a pencil grip on a stylus  can make it feel 'different' . The secondary tech departments used to support Surface Pros   they weren't so keen on iPads .

dadinashed  http://www.dadinashed.com/?product_cat=stylus    makes a selection of styluses. Much cheaper.

You could try using an external trackpad for writing on into a PC

touch typing would be a lifelong skill to develop
