Hello All

Are there any local authorities that are prioritising Covid vaccinations for staff working closely with children and young people with PD? Our team have been vaccinated alongside our special school colleagues as we are based in a special school.  Just wondered what other people's experience is in their areas and if there is anything we could do to push forward the date of a vaccine for staff in these roles.

Many thanks.

Hello Angela,

Thank you for putting this post up - I was talking to my colleague here in Devon earlier who was saying a similar thing. She works in mainstream and has not been offered the vaccination even though she and her team provide close 1:1 in the classroom, support with moving and handling / personal care etc. However, those in the special school next door have all been offered their first vaccination.  I wondered if people could be put forward as 'Carers' as they are working so closely with vulnerable young people, many of whom will have been shielding?

West Berks offered to vaccinate special school staff and staff from the Physical Disability Resources, withdrew the offer the reinstated it for special school staff only. After a lot of negotiation, I managed to get my staff offered vaccination in time for the half term holiday.

Many  vaccination centers run a lost of contacts who can come on short notice to ensure vaccine is used up rather than wasted if patients don't attend. I know some schools have their staff on such lists as the calls are at the end of the day and so after school.

Hi all.  In Warwickshire Special School staff were vaccinated first but we managed to argue that we had equally vulnerable learners in mainstream schools and EY settings, so staff undertaking manual handling and personal care have now been given access.  Centrally employed staff have yet to be prioritised.

Hi, after some pushing from us, we have managed to get vaccinations for the support staff that 1-1 with our complex medical needs children.  We are a mainstream but have a PD/CMN SRP so Kent have allowed for this reason only.
