Hi,

I am a member of a group that meets to share experiences and discuss solutions to enable young people who use AAC to have the appropriate 'normal way of working' applied for their exams access.

The core group have put together some guidance to support applying for exams access arrangements, the latest version '2022_23 AAC Exams Access Guidance' can be found on the Cornwall Assistive Technology site: Augmentative and Alternative Communication - Cornwall Council

The group is asking for people to share case studies about any work that has been done to request exam access arrangements for KS 2 SATs as well as GCSEs and A levels, to have as a record of what examination boards have granted and to support and empower people with their future applications. ]If you have examples that you think would be helpful to share please could you email Laura Baggley laurabcandleaac@gmail.com or Saff Murphy- Mann saff@saffmann.com who would be pleased to send you a proforma to record your case study and if you need it they would be happy to talk through what is useful to record. The case studies will then be added to the new guidance document.

Any questions please ask, many thanks Sarah Walton

this is from my colleague, KJ Dalley:
<div>I have had a child do their GCSE's as an EyeGaze user. I know the school had many phone calls to AQA to get the correct permissions for him to use this, I spoke to them once as well, when they were not allowing his personal assistant to work in his Food technology exam, we were successful in the end and he did have a practical assistant. I had also been recommending crib sheets used in year 10, which the student made with his LSA - these included a punctuation card, drawings examples of Science/FoodTech equipment and Maths symbols. These were put into low-tech paper grids so he could use assistive scan and select methods to get his LSA to write, draw the correct item for him. These were all sent (as photos) to AQA for their approval and were approved. I don't have any examples of his grids as didn't make them, sorry!</div>
