Hello All,

We have a young person with DMD transferring from primary school to our mainstream secondary next September (2024) and are beginning to plan for this.  The geography of the school includes different levels and no lifts - timetabling of classes on ground floor.  However there are also major building works due to begin in September 2024.  We do not have any accessible toilets or physio space appropriate for this young person.  At the primary school there is a hygiene unit/pod that may be able to be transferred.   We have been advised by OT  to create a timeline and plan so that we can meet need as far as possible but are struggling to know how to plan appropriately, who to go to for help and how to fund/secure funding.   Any advice would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance.

which LA are you in?  is there a PD/PNI advisory service there?  In Essex, this is something my team would assist with as we also facilitate building adaptations but I don't know how it works elsewhere

I agree with Jo. Our service would support you with all of that if you were in Derbyshire. Perhaps contact your local authority?

As above, seek advice from LA. It's likely to be difficult accessing the curriculum successfully without lifts, so may need to consider an alternative secondary school in the local area
