One of my Year 9 pupils has chosen to study Product Design for GCSE next year. He has hemiplegia and has very limited use in his left hand which makes manipulating items challenging for him. If anyone has experience or advice they are willing to share on adaptations that might be helpful I'd be really grateful.
Hi I was just explaining how I worked at Valence a PD local authority maintained special boarding school (D&T teacher for 20yrs and before that HoD D&T of 2 big London comps) and the screen cleared what Id entered. Most frustrating. Perhaps it would be easier if you emailed me directly? I am a great believer in all our students being involved in creative work and found that however disabled they were from hemiplegic as you mention, to partially sighted quadriplegic they could all be fully involved and be entered for public exams Entry Level, GCSE and AS (I didn't have any candidates who wanted take the full A level course).
My email is martin.cooper30@ntlworld.com
I hope to hear from you and good luck with your student.

Hi
My experience is that you need to have an in depth conversation with 3 groups.
the pupil him or herself.
someone with in depth knowledge of access arrangements possibilities and a third who knows precisely what the specific examination boards criteria are.
The latter because they all seem to vary slightly. Developments over the last 5 years or so with computer aided design, 3D printing and the like have transformed the opportunities in this area.
Also happy to 'chat' off line if it helps . soniacrabb123@gmail.com
