Colleagues who are geographically able to attend the next meeting of the APPG for the Teaching Profession may be interested in the email content below. This outlines the next meeting, to which the SoS and Shadow SoS will have been invited, so if they turn up there may be an opportunity to raise the urgent issue of depleting Specialist Teacher resources for CYP with PD directly with them, either in Q&A spots or as an AOB. As seen in threads in this forum, this is a national issue which needs urgent attention as posts are being deleted while demand is rising. As experts in this provision, colleagues here are in a unique position to advocate for the CYP and meetings like this represent a rare opportunity to be in the same room as policy makers or other influential players.

Dear Colleague,
Below is the draft agenda for our next meeting on 9th September 2019.
We will invite the Secretary of State for Education and the Shadow Secretary of State.
An important item on the agenda will be a work plan for the new academic year, with a key issue identified for each meeting. This will be complemented by the regular updates.
Please identify specific issues that you would like see on the agenda, with suggestions for speakers.
Minutes of the last meeting, held on Monday 10 June 2019 are available on the APPG website
We look forward to seeing you on 9th September 2019 after a relaxing (we hope) summer break

You should arrive half-an-hour before the meeting, at 3.30pm, to allow sufficient time to get through security and up to the committee room.
Papers relating to this meeting will be taken as read and will available on the APPG Website w/c 2 September 2019: https://appgteaching.com/news/.Â

(As there is no preview facility for these posts, I apologise in advance if the above pasted info contains all the formatting junk, but I hope it will still be readable!).

These meetings are open to anyone, and all the info about the APPG is here, where you can sign up to get on their mailing list:  https://appgteaching.com/

I hope to see any colleagues who can make it on the 9th September.

Max

Further to this, I will try to raise this at the meeting, particularly as there is now yet another new SoS in post.

If any colleagues would like to send me an outline of their experience/knowledge of specialist PD posts being deleted, reduced, or bundled into more generic SEND posts, I would be able to cite examples (anonymised of course). My email is maxterry@outlook.com.

Thanks

Max

PLEASE NOTE: THIS MEETING IS NOW CANCELLED owing to the chaotic political situation.

At the time of writing, the next scheduled meeting for this APPG is Monday 4th November. But I wouldn't book any train tickets just yet.

However I would still be grateful to hear from any colleagues as per my previous post, with a view to raising this issue with policymakers. Thanks.

Max
