The Dfe have asked to share the message below with out contacts.
"Last year, for the first time the Dfe offered training to teachers in using assistive technology (AT) that can reduce or remove barriers to learning for children with SEND. This pilot was led by nasen and MicroLink and built on the work already done by the DfE in this area, including by our network of EdTech Demonstrator Schools and National Star College. The findings from the independent evaluation by CooperGibson Research were promising. Participants reported improved awareness, understanding and confidence in using AT and assessing its effectiveness. Most said they thought the training would contribute towards future improvements across their school in terms of using AT effectively and removing barriers to learning for all pupils.
The government is now building on the AT pilot by commissioning another assistive technology training course over a longer period and with a more in-depth impact evaluation to add to the evidence base in this area. The new programme will continue to use the resources created for the pilot including case studies, videos, short introductions, and a self-audit tool which schools can use to identify their key areas for development. A contract finder notice for the delivery partner is now online and we will be hosting a webinar for prospective bidders on 23rd August. If you are interested in hearing more about the opportunity, please register for the webinar in advance. Please also share this information with any contacts who you feel may be interested.
