Good Morning and Happy New Year (although we may be past the point of saying that now... I never know when to stop!)

We are currently looking at our frequency of visits as PI Advisory Teachers and how we determine that.

I was wondering how other authorities do that - do you use specific criteria, if so what?

Thanks in advance.

Hi - in Essex we moved away from service level agreements and set numbers of visits etc as we found this too inflexible.  We try to be needs-led as far as possible, so for example, there may be a child/school who needs several visits in one term or half term but once the issues are sorted we may not go back again for a few months, or there may be other situations where a more routine termly or half- termly visit is more appropriate.  We may not always visit in person but offer support remotely if this is a better use of everyone's time.

Hi Rachel

In Hull, we work as part of a service that includes hearing and vision impairment specialists. They use the NATSIP guidelines to determine numbers of visits on an annual basis.

We adapted the NATSIP guidelines for PD so that we can determine level of support / numbers of visits and so prioritise higher physical needs. After trialling and amending we are happy with how it works and have been using it for 7 years.

if you would like a copy of our 'eligibility criteria' please email me on robert.grayson@hullcc.gov.uk

Rob the criteria you sent me have been really helpful. I'm looking at them now. It's interesting how differently we work across the country with things like this!
