Hi,

I'm interested in what arrangements Local Authorities make regarding Moving & Handling advice and training, for schools supporting children and young people with physical difficulties.

Do you employ someone centrally to offer this support or are schools expected to obtain and organise this themselves?

I've been tasked with investigating new options for our LA so would be really interested to hear what others do and how well this is working.

Thank you,

Kelly

Hi Kelly

In Dudley we have our own team as part of the physical Impairment service.  We then monitor practise in schools when we visit.

Hi Kelly, our school (Blackpool) have had 2 members of staff trained to become Moving and Handling trainers. We found that with turnover of staff and the refreshers needed it was the best option for us. Other schools and agencies now buy in our trainers to deliver to their teams. If you want any more information or contact details of the trainer feel free to email me at erica.smith@blackpool.gov.uk

Hope this helps.

Hi

I work for Lancashire CC and as a Traded Service, we offer this training to schools. Schools pay to attend out centrally held training and we also carry out bespoke training to individual schools.

At my school in West Berkshire we have two members of staff trained to be manual handling trainers. Anther local school with a PD resource and a local special school also had staff trained at the same time.
