Hi Kelly, Like Erika (Blackpool) our school (Evesham)  also have 2 members of staff trained as Moving and Handling trainers. We also found that with turnover of staff and the refreshers needed it was the best option (and cheapest) for us.

Hi Kelly in Trafford we have a Moving & Handling Advisor but schools have to buy in using a service level agreement for individual assessment, training to move an individual or whole school training. Some of our special schools have done the training so they can advise their own staff and meet individual needs including writing moving and handling plans. Hope this helps.

Hello Kelly,

In Devon there are trainers in almost all of the special schools and a couple of the mainstream schools where there is always a high level of PD need. We train the trainers and then run an annual update / refresher day which covers the CPD,  troubleshooting and ongoing accreditation . The liaison and peer support we all get from this day is of great benefit.

Those schools / settings who just have one or 2 students needing handling either pay to send people on a central course in our office base or buy us in for a bespoke course in their venue.

We are excited also to have recently started working with the Somerset and Cornwall ATPDs. Do get in touch if you need more information - jenny.woolf@babcockinternational.com we could be the South West Handlers!!

All the best

Jenny

Hi Kelly

In Warwickshire some members of the Birth-5 Team and the PD & Complex Needs team are trained to deliver MH training. The Special schools in the county also have their own MH trainers. The refresher courses for all trainers are organised centrally by a member of the PD Team and it is really good that everyone comes together for this.

I'm also involved in Solihull where there are currently two annual courses run for schools that staff can book on to. These courses are run by members of the PD Team who are MH trainers and myself in my role as an Independent PD teacher.

In my independent role I also run courses for individual schools in Birmingham and Solihull, usually at the recommendation of PD teachers in these areas. Having been previously employed in Northamptonshire where there is no longer a PD team I also run courses for individual schools in the county.

If you want any further information, do contact me: cpearcecst@gmail.com

Hello everyone,

Thank you for all your comprehensive replies. They are so helpful.

I may come back to one or two of you as this work progresses.

Thanks again,

Kelly
