We have an increasing number of schools requesting that changing tables be provided for their neurodivergent learners who do not have a physical disability but are delayed in their toileting. Currently our stance is that we only provide the changing tables if advised by an OT relating to a physical disability.  I wondered what other local authorities are doing?

Hi Julie The policy in my last LA was that schools were expected to have appropriate changing facilities for children in Key Stage 1 as many children will have accidents and several will be experiencing delay with toileting. This was set out in the LA’s Access Strategy.

Same in Essex - we would expect schools to be providing these as a reasonable adjustment.  Also we run any requests for our children past the OT in case it is more disabling to change them on a table

I agree that we would encourage schools to purchase for those level of needs and wouldn't be on caseload.  Would anyone be interested in sharing their LA's Access Strategy?- Kent is in the middle of a consultation for ours.

This has come up again in our Area. Jane/Jo- are you expecting schools to purchase height adjustable plinths for all children in Key Stage 1? Would you provide one for older children? Do you provide them if you are installing a care suite?
