A Disabled car parking space is located at the entrance to a school (with other  parking spaces) which is also next to  a pedestrian access to school. Currently main school gates are closed to prevent any vehicular access between 8.30 am and 9am. to ensure the safety of parents and pupils. This is applicable to all staff and parents. The parent of a disabled pupil wants to bring her child to the entrance between these times and believes that she is entitled to do so as she should be able to access a Disabled car parking space at any time. School are happy to receive the pupil at 8.25am or 9.05 am and have arranged for a support assistant to meet and greet at the specified time. I feel this is a reasonable adjustment but parents are still not satisfied with this solution. Any advice re. legalities/ overriding Health and Safety laws that  I can take to school.

Thanks

Heather

This is not a unique situation. schools seek safety for all their community and parking is universally challenging for all drivers. This school have provided a parking space inside the gates. I agree that they have made a reasonable adjustment with drop off times AND providing assistance in meeting the child.

Beyond these reasonable adjustments I'm not sure the law will help. Health and safety not to mention security of the site all come into play. You could try asking the Equality and Human Rights Commission or Disabled Motoring who are a charity specialising in all motoring relating to disability. Worth joining generally.
