School excluding student from School trip and asking parents to go

Hi there I would like to hear how others have managed the scenario of a school saying a young person with PD must bring their parents on a school trip to spain. The YP is 13 and independent, can toilet, wash, dress herself, knows herself and will ask for help if needed, but may need some support getting round in a manual wheelchair. The YP and parent think that she would be fine with just a TA to support with getting around. School are saying they are going to a town with cobbles and to awater park- health and safety and she wouldn't manage so need her parents to go to keep her entertained on the 2 days she can't go on! The YP obvs doesn't want parents there at all. Parents think she could manage both waterpark and cobbles with aid of TA but school keep saying health and safety etc. I will be using the reasonable adjustments and equality act if needed, but any other ideas/ arguments to encourage school to let this YP go independently on the trip? It is next May so plenty of time for anticipatory adjustments for inclusion. thanks in advance

hi all I just wanted to update you and share that the school have agreed to fund an extra member of staff to attend the trip as per reasonable adjustments 🙂 and her parents do not have to attend.

The young person is absolutely thrilled and we will work with the school to support hopefully a fully inclusive experience whilst on the trip.
