Key speakers at the APPGAT conference  (Oct 28th-earlier post) made some interesting observations about the role of technology

Technology kept many of these children alive  so -  technology should support them throughout their lives

‘The future is here but it is not evenly distributed’

(this is so true for technology to support pd – never has there been so much appropriate technology both specialist and mainstream  but too few technical advisers to provide and support it )

What does aspiration and ambition for CYP with pd look like, both operationally and in practice and relevance.  What does good look like ?
Defining what a universal knowledge provision is and what does the work force need.

All good topics for discussion!

Hi Maggie,

The frustration is that our schools are educating most children for the last century!

Where do we find adults handwriting for 2+ hours or  not being given the option to choose their tools for recording.

All schools require better funding and many simply cannot afford to have appropriate technology for any of their students yet alone those with SEND.  £400 million “.......to help our schools buy the little extras they need”!!!!!!

And don't get me started me on exam boards!!!

The following two quotes remain entirely appropriate!

“Enabling technology is concerned with the creative and sensitive application of appropriate technology in order to improve the quality of life of individuals and their range of life opportunities”.  Mike Blamires (1999)

“For most people, technology makes things easier. For people with disabilities, however, technology makes things POSSIBLE”.  Mary Radabaugh (1988)
