Hi everyone

Is it possible to use an X box controller with a chat pad keyboard with Word in Windows and Googledocs on a Chrome book? Has anyone tried this before or does anyone have any advice as to how to do this?

We are currently trying Unified Remote to link  an iphone as an input device to a windows 10 machine but the school network won't allow it. The x box controller would have a wired connection so not need the network.

This is for a young person with Ataxia.

Thanks in advance

Hilary

Hi Hilary,

I work for the AT company Smartbox. This is a link I sent to one of our customers last week who was looking to use the chat pad with Grid 3 : https://www.windowscentral.com/how-set-and-use-xbox-chatpad-windows-10-pcs

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Jess

Hi Jess

Thanks for the link, its very useful. Do you know whether the chat pad will work with those particular apps? All I can find out is that it will work with "game controller compatible apps" but then I can't get confirmation that Word and Googledocs are compatible in that way.

Thanks again

Hilary

A friend of mine who is good at IT visited a pupil with Friedrich’s Ataxia at home to try to set up an XBox control pad with an onscreen keyboard that had a predictive text function. We hoped this would allow him to use Word to produce his own written work. It was a real struggle for him to use it, as his FA was advanced and progressing quickly.

A specialist team from Barnsley Assistive Technology came and assessed the pupil. He was given a Liberator speech device. Again, that worked up to a point. It depends on how the condition progresses. We always seemed to be a step behind in finding suitable IT. I had an older tea aged girl with FA who continued to struggle on with a standard laptop and hated ‘specialist’ equipment with a vengeance!

i hope you find some5ing that works. A scribe who records using a small laptop or iPad can be a good solution.

would a smaller keyboard, like a cherry keyboard be an option? Or a wired track pad or joystick with the windows on screen keyboard?
