Members in or near London may be interested to know about various All Party Parliamentary Groups which meet in the Palace of Westminster from time to time to discuss specific topics.

These may be of interest:

APPG for Disability: https://www.disabilityrightsuk.org/policy-campaigns/all-party-parliamentary-disability-group-appdg

APPG for Young Disabled People:  http://www.musculardystrophyuk.org/campaign-for-independent-living/trailblazers/campaigns/what-we-campaign-about/all-party-parliamentary-group-for-young-disabled-people/

These groups are open to members of the public and if you email the secretariats asking to go on their mailing lists they will respond positively. These meetings are interesting and instructive, you hear from people's lived experience, and you get a chance to speak directly to parliamentarians who may have an impact on policy.

Colleagues may be interested in this report of a recent APPG for Education:

http://www.educationappg.org.uk/2018/06/26/meeting-with-the-chair-of-the-education-select-committee-robert-halfon-26-june/

which was chaired by Robert Halfon, who is also the chair of the Education Select Committee, who were asking for submissions on SEND provision last month (I posted about this at the time).

There are some interesting remarks about social justice, high needs funding, and narrowing the curriculum.

The APPG for Disability met today (16th July), and the topic was the relationship between disabled people and the media. Representatives from Ch4, the BBC, the FT and an advertising agency spoke about their achievements and aspirations in including disabled people in all aspects of their work (including encouraging work experience placements).
