I currently work in a mainstream school with a designated specialist provision for PD- can anyone advise what their fire evacuation policy states around learners evacuating- do you have to have evac chairs for every stair well? How many? (I have 13 wheel chair users).  Fire proof lift? Refuge point?

Hi,

I manage our fire policy at school and we are an inclusive mainstream school. We have fire slings (not 1 each) and holding bays.We also have wheelchair users upstairs. We are allowed to stay in the holing bays as we have communication devices which alerts us to if we actually need to evacuate. We have had our Fire Officer check our procedures and policies and they are happy with how it works.

Please get in touch if you would like any more information.

Emma

We have something similar, with an evac on each section of first floor (different buildings and a layout where floors are not continuous/joined up). A pupil would go to the refuge point/evac chair (where we have a communication device) and be met by staff designated to support. They then evacuate from there if alerted to do so.
