Hi Kim
in Kent we have a joint equipment store with Health and social services which is run by NRS. For postural and therapy equipment we have an equipment panel which therapists apply to making a case for the provision of the equipment. It goes through clinical approval first and then it is considered for Education to provide to school or nursery. If it is not available in the store, then SEN purchase it through NRS so that it can be added to the log for delivery, maintenance etc. We do not provide equipment for children under 2 years of age - that comes from Health. CYP don't need an EHCp to access specialist equipment.
If it is equipment for a care suite - then we are in the process of reviewing this. Free standing equipment, eg plinths, toileting systems are provided by SEN, fixed equipment eg ceiling track hoists and wall mounted plinths come through school access initiative funding or academies and non-maintained schools purchase themselves. The actual decision about what equipment to provide, ie type of hoist and plinth etc is something that we are working on deciding who is best placed to recommend.
We don't have an actual policy written down which is a shame as we often have confusion - good luck with yours. Perhaps you could share it when it's done
best wishes - Julie
