I often find myself in meetings where I remind participants that there is a "D" at the end of "SEND" as it often gets left off. I'm aware that some schools now have SENDCos rather than SENCos.

This may seem trivial but I think it points to a lack of awareness and understanding, and is not inclusive. I wondered if other colleagues have views on this.

Happens all the time. i too remind people. All our school paperwork is now SEND rather than SEN though the SENCO role is still SENCO.

Inclusion or better still integration is an ongoing battle and you are right that beginning with the language used is a way to begin to move people's attitudes and actions.

Agreed.

I begin all my emails, with 'Dear SENDCo' regardless of the title they have.

'D' is often seen as the role of FLO/Welfare and it isn't helped when most of my statutory assessments are being declined because they 'don't have SEN'. Consequently, the C/YP  slip down the priority list of SENDCos when there isn't a built in statutory Annual Review and 'care plan' meetings aren't seen as their remit.
